Exciting News About Our New Rector - The Rev. Kathleen Murray

9/5/2017

We are very pleased to announce that the Rev. Kathleen Murray has accepted a call to be the next rector of Beckford Parish and its two churches. She comes to us from New Jersey where she is Priest-in-Charge at St. Mark's in Keansburg, NJ, and wears many hats there. She has helped them recover from devastation by Hurricane Sandy, has increased overall attendance over the last three years, and oversees their outreach food ministry that serves 4,000 meals a month and a food pantry that serves 250 families a month.

A graduate of General Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and certificate in spiritual direction, as well as a Master's of Public Administration from Columbia University, Mother Kathy has been an ordained priest since 2013. She brings a strong background in education, government, finance, and public administration, as well as experience as a senior warden and vestry member. This experience, combined with her warmth, energy, and kindness, greatly impressed the Search Committee and were evident in the testimonies of her references. After a long, thorough process of vetting several candidates, The Search Committee believed that Kathy was uniquely and abundantly qualified to lead us and expand the parish's ministries in our communities and pastoral care within our churches. Her starting date is November 1. She and her spouse, Marty Dooley, will be with us the first Sunday in November for All Saints Day. Marty is an ordained Episcopal deacon.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to the Search Committee members—and their families—for their dedicated and faithful work on our behalf. The time and effort they have given for the last two years—combined with the emotional toll of losing two members—is remarkable.

Words are inadequate to express our gratitude and our mixed feelings in saying goodbye to Michael, our interim for the last year and a half. He has helped us grow in faith and confidence. Thanks to him, there is new energy and momentum in Beckford Parish, and he has prepared us well to embrace not only our new rector but a robust future in God's service. Thank you, Michael. There is a joint service of celebration on his last Sunday, September 10, at 10:15 at Emmanuel, followed by a potluck brunch. Be sure to join us and thank him in person for his good work among us.
